- What are swirl marks?
- Swirl marks are fine scratches inflicted either by improper washing and/or drying methods, most commonly caused by sponges when washing & chamois leathers when drying
- Why not use an Automatic Carwash?
- Just as bad as washing with a grubby old sponge in the garage, automatic carwashes use huge high speed rollers that inflict swirl marks and fine scratches on the paint work.
- Why not use a supermarket valeting company or the local kids?
- As said previously, the £5 super valet special at the end of the road is your car’s paint work worst enemy. Dirty sponges, chamois leathers will ruin a finish. They are set up for volume not quality. Often staffed by foreigners they just do not care about your car. As far as the local kids trying to make some money washing cars, Mirror Finish would pay them not to clean the car.
- Are your chemicals environmentally friendly?
- All the materials Mirror Finish use are PH neutral, so can be rinsed away without damaging the environment. Mirror Finish only uses the best products and look out for biodegradable where possible. Mirror Finish also uses an acid free wheel cleaner and citrus based degreasers leaving safe and natural finish.
- What is snow foaming?
- Snow foaming is a process of covering the car in thick foam that will cling to vertical surfaces. The foam is left to dwell on the cars bodywork for five to ten minutes. In this time, the foam helps breakdown the dirt. The foam is then rinsed off along with all the dirt. Finally, your car is ready to be washed using the two bucket method.
- What is Machine Polishing?
- Machine polishing involves using a rotary variable speed polisher fitted with different polishing pads and different compounds to remove swirl marks, light scratches, bird dropping residue etc. This can be the most time consuming part of detailing, some cars can take up to a week to fully correct and owners can pay many hundreds of pounds for this service. Prior to polishing we take a reading of the paint thickness; an investment we feel is well worth the money. We then take readings throughout the process so as not to leave the clear coat too thin.
- Are you a franchise?
- No, we are not a franchise and have no affiliations with any chemical manufacturers. Leaving us free to use whatever products we feel are appropriate for your car.
- Why so are your prices so expensive?
- In comparative terms compared to using a main dealer for services like this or a body shop, Mirror Finish are very competitive, even cheap compared to the like of major dealerships like Porsche, Audi, Vauxhall and BMW.
- What forms of payment do you accept?
- We accept cash, cheque with a banker’s card, or PayPal.

- What detailing products do you use?
- As a professional Mirror Finish only use the best product available. Mirror Finish uses recognised cleaning products from respected companies such as Chemical Guys, Meguiars, 3M, Poorboys and Dodo juice. Mirror Finish also use wax and sealants from these manufacturers for standard valeting services. Customers can, if they wish, upgrade to premium grade sealants and waxes from Swissvax or Zaino.
- Can you give advice on good practice?
- If you are interested in keeping the swirl marks away, Mirror Finish can show you the process and even arrange for a sample detailing kit for the day of the detail, so you can keep up with the shine.
